A total of 96 SocComm Correspondents came together on February 25, 2022 for the biggest-ever attended Social Communications Correspondents Assembly to date.
This year, Ms. Julie Gonzales, News chief and Production Head of DYAF-CMN Bacolod gave inputs on Mobile Media Reporting while Mr. Christian Belicano, SocComm and DYAF Lay-out and Digital Graphic Artist presented the basics of Mobile Phone Video Editing.
In his opening message, Rev. Fr. Roy Christian Gesulgon, Chairperson of the Diocesan Social Communications Commission (SocComm) reminded the correspondents about their mission as communication ministers. “As young people you have the power in your hands. You can use your cellphones to spread the Good News”, Fr. Gesulgon said.
According to Fr. Gesulgon, “As communications ministers, you are called to answer the usual query by people: “Where is the Church? What is the Church doing given the situation? By bringing the stories of the parishes and chaplaincies to the wider diocesan platform, we amplify these stories to a wider audience.”
To encourage more grassroots participation, the Diocesan Social Communications Commission also launched “The Lingganay Awards 2022”.
Among the awards to given are Best in Facebook Page, SocComm Correspondent of the Year, Best News Story, Best in Photo Journalism, Best Video Edit, Best Parish and Chaplaincy SocComm Ministry and Media Person of the Year
The Assembly is an annual event organized by the Diocesan Social Communications Commission to update and equip parish and chaplaincy-based communications ministers regarding the basics of the media apostolate.
