Bishop Patricio A. Buzon, SDB, DD leads the Diocese of Bacolod in the observance of Ash Wednesday early at 6:00 in the morning at the San Sebastian Cathedral.
In his homily, Bishop Buzon urged the faithful of the diocese to join Pope Francis' call for a “Day of Prayer and Fasting” for Ukraine. He expressed his personal prayer for the “grace of the end of the war” in Ukraine. The Bishop took notice of that "grace" which, according to him, was at work in EDSA and now, he hopes for that same grace to be experienced by the people of Ukraine through prayers.
Bishop Buzon also reminded Mass-goers to observe the Lenten season with the proper disposition. He said that the disciplines of Lent are to be done "not for show" but "quietly" instead so that people can hear God and be converted.
For him, prayer, fasting and acts of charity during Lent are "to be done for God" and not for the purpose "of being seen by others."
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the 40-day season of Lent in the Church’s liturgical calendar.
